MD in Canada eligibility criteria

MBBS in Canada is different from that in India. The MBBS program is known as MD in Canada. The reason being it doesn’t provide any undergraduate program in medicine. Therefore, to pursue MBBS/MD in Canada, you must enroll in a pre-requisite course to gain the required knowledge. But undergraduate program must have subjects like Biology and Chemistry. It is then followed by Master’s in medicine i.e. MD.

10+2 qualifying certificates

Just like any other country, to study medicine in Canada, you must qualify 12th with at least 50% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. If you want to apply for any specific college, it is advised that you check the eligibility criteria on the college’s website. Moreover, some universities offer direct admission to medical colleges or universities i.e. no need to appear for the entrance exam. In such case, a student must qualify 10+2 with good percentage

Diploma in CEGEP

Since Canada only offers master’s in medicine, a student must be a graduate to apply for the same. After 10+2, students can opt for a graduate program in any science-related field such as physiotherapy, dietitian, B.Sc. etc. Diploma must have chemistry and biology as its subjects. Also, some universities prefer undergrad program for 2 years while other for 3 years. Therefore, you must check the required duration of course and then, apply for it

MCAT qualification

For MBBS in India, you must qualify NEET entrance exam. Likewise, for MD in Canada, you must clear MCAT to get admission in a medical college. Ensure that you clear MCAT with a good percentile or else you will not get invited for the personal interview. By any chance if you are invited for the interview, you will certainly get a seat in one of the medical colleges in Canada.

Also, you must keep in mind, when you apply for the MD program, carry all the documents required. Below is a checklist you may keep in handy

Documents required for the MD program

• Mark sheets and passing certificates of class 10th, 12th, graduation/diploma course
• Scorecard or certification from IELTS or TOEFL
• Two academic references
• Passport-sized photographs
• Statement of Purpose (An essay that briefly describes the purpose of your visit, the duration you will stay in the country, the course you have applied for, application letter, places you will visit, etc.)
• Resume
• Draft of application fee
• Extracurricular activities certificates and achievements
