If you wish to be an engineer, doctor, or dentist, apart from the NEET or JEE entrance exam, you can apply for various state-level entrance exams as well. COMEDK UGET is one such state-level entrance exam you can apply for. Through this entrance test, you can study in any of the engineering or medical college of Karnataka.
You can elaborate COMEDK as the consortium of medical, engineering and dental colleges of Karnataka. It doesn’t matter whether you belong to the state or not, you can still apply for the exam online.
Last year, the registration for COMEDK started from January 16 to April 21, 2019, and the COMEDK exam date was May 12, 2019. This year the registration started from January 16, 2020, but the last date to register for the same has been extended. You can now register for COMEDK till May 5, 2020. The admit card may be released in the 4th week of May. A tentative date for the COMEDK exam has been released that 1st week of June 2020. The COMEDK result date may get declared in the last week of June and counselling for it may start from July 2020.
The entrance exams inclusive of COMEDK has seen such delay this year because of the prevailing situation in the country due to COVID-19. The novel coronavirus has affected not only the entrance exams for the year but also the school’s calendar, businesses, corporates, economy, etc.
COMEDK exam pattern
Karnataka government conducts the COMEDK exam online for 3 hours. You will have to answer 180 multiple-choice questions. The pattern for paper varies in the case of engineering and medical or dental.
If you want to study engineering, you only need to appear for a single exam. It will test your knowledge of physics, chemistry, and mathematics. The exam comprises of 180 questions, 30 questions from each subject.
Whereas, if you want to apply for engineering and medical both, you need to appear for 2 exams. One exam will be for physics, chemistry, and mathematics and has 60 questions from each subject. The other exam will test you for biology and English and contains 60 questions from biology and 30 from English.
If you want to study only medicine or dental, you must appear for 2 exams. One for physics and chemistry that has 60 questions for each. The second exam is for biology and English that has 60 questions from biology and 30 from English.
A positive aspect of the COMEDK exam is that there is no negative marking. For each correct answer, you gain one mark and for the incorrect or unanswered question, you get zero.
